The great ocean road in Victoria Australia was finally bitumenized in the late 1980s. It cuts through the Otway Ranges and connects the two stretches of coastline on either side of cape Otway linking coastal Victorian towns from Anglesea to Portland.
Arguably the finest scenic coastal drive in the world, the great ocean snakes through state and national parks as well as small coastal communities. A visual feast confronts the visitor driving on the great ocean road. Spectacular ocean views on one side and a primal geology on the other. For enthusiasts of the great outdoors the attractions of this coastline can exceed all expectations. It provides outstanding opportunities for bushwalking, camping, surfing Hang Gliding & Paragliding, wind surfing and fishing.
Significant part of this Victorian coastline were made state and national parks, which has reduced the opportunity for excessive development and commercialization.
